Banksy, a nomen omen unsurpassed artist, began his adventure with graffiti at the age of fourteen. To this day, he closely guards his identity, and playing hide-and-seek has become his trademark.
Street-art
Despite the immense fame of this undisputed king of street-art, his identity remains unknown. What is known about the artist? – Little more than that he is obscenely rich, and his first graffiti was created on the walls of buildings in his hometown of Bristol. For this reason he was repeatedly prosecuted by the police. It was only in the 1990s that he became famous, his first works costing only about £50. Today, prices are up to a million pounds.
Artist presents more than 100 works, original exhibits but also works in the form of photographs, sculptures and much more. In addition, some of the exhibits are recreated using his own technique – stencils created specifically for this exhibition.
Banksy’s works travel around the world, both online, through millions of shares on social media platforms, and in real life, in the form of exhibitions, mostly unauthorized by the British artist due to his anonymous status.
Yet they are invariably hugely popular and are considered a success everywhere.
Dozens of works by the renowned printmaker have been copied, framed and presented in an exhibition at Munich’s Kronsbein gallery. The exhibition is curated by art dealer Dirk Kronsbein and the artist’s daughter, Sarah.
The theme of the exhibition is a critique of society, politics and capitalism.
The British artist closely observes reality: he draws attention to the use of tear gas in a French refugee camp, to the Syrian origin of Apple’s founder – Steve Jobs.
The exhibition “Banksy – King of Urban art” in the Munich gallery “Kronsbein” will last until September 10.
